Exxon Mobil has put MTSB into some drinking water in Maryland. Where is the EPA?  The EPA is suppose to prevent this type of stuff from happening, well the oil companies might have paid off the EPA, so the EPA does not enforce the polices. So people of maryland not only are you a red state, but part of your state is contaminated with MTSB.  I wonder if the residents of Maryland know that MTSB has been found to cause cancer in lab rats.  I wonder if the people who drank the water from the fallston's wells in significant quantities know that.  Maybe in a few years if the residents of Maryland see an increase people diagnosed cancer. The MTSB found in fallston's water wells is the source of your cancer. Poor residents of maryland some of you might be diagnosed with cancer and some not.  Those that are diagnosed with cancer, I wonder where will you get the money to pay for your treatment, will this somehow affect your plans of retirement and etc.  Oh wait, maybe tho se people diagnosed with cancer can sue Exxon Mobil?  The people of Maryland are going to get money as compensatoin for being infected with a possible death sentence, highly unlikely Bush and Republicans in congress are going to pass a law so the business don't have to award multi-million dollar pay outs when they are found guilty of breaking a law that has the possibility of kiling people on mass scale.  Killing peole on a mass scale, That sounds like the WMDS saddam was suppose to have, which was threatening America.  Well one WMD has been found.  The WMD has been found in Maryland, and the source is from Exxon Mobil.  Saddam w as'nt the greatest threat to the people of Maryland with the WMD, Exxon Mobil is the greatest threat with MSTB.

Terri Shaivo parents and her husband, want an autopsy done.  This is an excellent idea, becuase an autopsy done on brain may prove what side was right and what side was wrong.  However Terri Shaivo parents want specialists in involved.

I was watching the news and the Schindler family thinks their might have been physical abuse before Terri had her heart attack. The Shcindlers think Terri husband Michael abused Terri physically specificaly strangul ation, thats why Terri suffered an heart attack.  The Schindler's family is getting desperate that are now looking for a way to blame Michael Schaivo for the ir daughters heart attack? Shicindler family, if your daughter was a victim of strangulation their would be bruises on her neck. If strangulation was the cause of the heart attack?  When Terri was brought to the hospital when she suffered a heart attack. These bruises would be documented by the hospital staff at the time of her admittance.  The reason why the hospital staff documents this is becuase it is the law.  If the hospital staff suspects abuse the hospital staff are requried by law to report a possibe abuse case to law enforcement.  Terri Shaivo had a heart attack 15 years ago.  You would think that within these 15 years a charge of physical abuse against Michael Schaivo would already be filed.  If you assault someone or someone assaults you.  There is only one year, that you can file an assault charge. This is called the statue of limitations. If this one year past you can no longer file a charge. 

If abuse is found during her autopsy?  How do you prove that Michael Shavio caused those abuses?  Terri was in a hospital for 15 years anyone could cause abuse to her?   

Desperate parents that don't want to let go.  Desperate parents looking for someone to blame for one their daughters heart attack. From what I have read Terri suffered from bulimia. 

Schindlers if you are going blame someone for your daughter heart attack.  Why don't you blame the society we live that make females think they have to have certain body type.  Skinny girls is acceptable, fat girls are not.  Why don't you blame mattel with their barbie dolls. That indoctron ate females at young age that this is the body they are suppose to have.  Why don't you blame the models in the women magazines, and the women magazines that use those models.  These magazines along with televison also act as constant reinforcers that the ideal female is suppose to have this body type.

Terri Schiavo

As I type these words, the US Congress is preparing to meet in extraordinary session to decide whether to pass a bill granting Terri Schiavo's parents the right to take her case to federal court. This is an amazing spectacle on any number of counts. But one of the most striking to me, as a bioethicist, is that so many people are talking as though Terri Schiavo is the victim of some alarming new indignity. Thus, ABC News (video clip here; 'Questioning Intentions') showed Rep. Dave Weldon saying, on the floor of the Congress, "To order the withdrawal of food and water from somebody -- it's never been done before to my knowledge." There are only two ways to take this claim: either Rep. Weldon is lying or he has not bothered to inform himself even minimally about what he's talking about. In fact, the only thing about Terri Schiavo's case that's at all unusual is the amount of attention it has received.

The basic facts of the case are well known (there's a very good account here.) In 1990, Terri Schiavo suffered cardiac arrest, probably as a result of bulimia. (If any of you have been wondering why a woman in her twenties had cardiac arrest, that seems to be the answer. The underreporting of this aspect of the case is a real missed opportunity to educate people about the consequences of serious eating disorders.) As a result of the cardiac arrest, her brain was deprived of oxygen, which caused severe brain damage.

Eight years later, after various attempts at therapy and a successful malpractice suit (based on the doctors' failure to diagnose Terri's eating disorder), Michael Schiavo petitioned the court to determine whether her feeding tube should be removed. Many press reports talk as though he just decided that it should be removed; in fact, he left that decision to the court. He and others testified that Terri Schiavo had said that she would not want to be kept alive in a condition like the one she was in; her family of origin testified that she had said that she would. The judge found (pdf) that there was 'clear and convincing evidence' that Terri Schiavo would not have wanted to receive life-prolonging care in her current condition, and ordered that the feeding tube could be removed. (If you are wondering how the judge could have found 'clear and convincing evidence' given conflicting testimony, I urge you to read the pdf, which explains why the judge did not find her parents' testimony credible. In one case, for instance, they testified that she had made a remark supporting their position when she was an adult, but it turned out that she had said it when she was 11 or 12.) This was in 1998; in 2001, after this decision had been appealed as far as it could go and upheld, her feeding tube was removed for the first time.

However, the tube was reinserted after her parents filed another appeal based on the claim that they had new evidence and that there were new treatments that might help her regain consciousness. These appeals were heard and denied; again, the case was appealed as far as it could go, and upheld. Terri Schiavo's parents then challenged the constitutionality of the relevant laws, but this challenge was dismissed by a federal court. At this point, in October 2003, her feeding tube was removed for the second time. The Florida legislature then passed a law allowing Gov. Bush to issue a stay and have the feeding tube reinserted. After yet another series of appeals, this law was found to be unconstitutional by the Florida Supreme Court; this decision was appealed to the US Supreme Court, which denied review. The parents then filed various new motions all of which were denied; and on Friday Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was removed.

As I read this history, several things stand out. The first is that it is hard for me to see how anyone could think that Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was being removed without due consideration, since more or less every relevant aspect of it has been litigated and appealed as far as possible. Nor, as far as I can tell, is there any question about the competence of the lawyers involved: everyone seems to agree that both sides have been well represented.

The second is that there seems to be very little question about whether Terri Schiavo might ultimately recover. (Rivka at Respectful of Otters, who is a doctor, has a good post about the medical opinions offered by Terri Schiavo's parents.) As one of the court decisions in this case said (pdf; p. 7):

"Although the physicians are not in complete agreement concerning the extent of Mrs. Schiavo's brain damage, they all agree that the brain scans show extensive permanent damage to her brain. The only debate between the doctors is whether she has a small amount of isolated living tissue in her cerebral cortex or whether she has no living tissue in her cerebral cortex."

The cerebral cortex is responsible for cognition and the integration of sensation. Terri Schiavo's cerebral cortex is not only dead; it has liquified. If her cerebral cortex were still there but for some reason not working, then there might be hope that she could recover. But in her case, it's gone. In order for her to recover, it would have to be literally recreated. Here, via Alas, a blog, is a scan of Terri Schiavo's brain and a healthy brain:

My understanding is that the dark bits are spinal fluid; and thus that the fact that the scan of Terri Schiavo's brain shows huge dark areas, both in the center and elsewhere, indicates that an awful lot of her brain has been replaced by spinal fluid. I am not a doctor, of course. But Rivka, who is, writes: "The amount of brain tissue missing is truly shocking." And PZ Meyers adds: "I am not a medical doctor, but I do have that Ph.D. in neuroscience (I am eminently qualified to analyze the brains of fish and insects), and that is one ghastly mess. That's not much of a brain, it's a balloon bobbing about in there." (In using these quotes, I mean no disrespect to Ms. Schiavo, for whom I have nothing but sympathy.)

I don't normaly remember my dreams in detail, But now I am. My dreams recently have been about death.  For the past two weeks most of my dreams have been about people dying, and me dying.  In several dreams, I for see my own death, and death of many people who live in cities, there are huge fires in cities, as tall as the buildings.  I see myself getting shot by the police, I also see myself fighting soliders,&n bsp;I don't if they are US soliders or foreign soliders. I see people running through streets. I don't know what they runing from? There is mass chao's.  There is also a scene in my dreams, where I see the signs welcome to kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. The land is all barren, and dry there is no vegetation.  What caused the land to be barren I don't know? 

As for me dreaming about this. I don't know why? I dream about this.  A girl that I know her mom has dreams where she foresee's her own death also, she sees herself dying in different ways, and she does not know why she has those dreams also.      & nbsp;

Once again this post is about Terri Shaivo.  Bush and the conservatives in congress want to save Terri Shaivo.  In my eyes Terri Shaivo is brain dead.  Conservatives say she is brain damage therefore their is limited brain activity going on in her brain.  Conservatives also say she can be saved.

If Terri Shaivo is braindamage as the conservatives say, and not brain dead. Terri Shaivo would be in the category of Traumatic Brain Injury.

If Terri Shaivo has been diagnosed with traumatic Brain Injury.  Then the odds of her getting back to normal are greatly reduced. Because Bush proposed budget for 2006 will include cutting a $9 million program for treating people with traumatic brain injury.  So if the the conservaitves succeed in reinserting her feeding tube.  There will be no funding for the program that helps people with traumatic Brain Injury.

As for soliders returning from Iraq that also have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury. If Bush is successful in terminating traumati c brain injury pr ogram, you soliders are on your own.

President Bush keyed in on Medicaid and attacked the program with "the single largest reduction in his proposed budget for fiscal 2006." President Bush is trying to gut the program of $20 billion over the next five years and a grand total of $60 billion over the next 10 years. Though the budget turns around and reinvests a small percentage of the money "saved," the program still faces net cuts of $45 billion.

So the GOP wants to save Shaivo life.  However medicad pays for Mrs. Shaivo medication.  But Bush and the GOP controlled congress is cutting the medicad budget.  So if the GOP is sucessful in re inserting Mrs. Shaivo feeding tube.  The GOP saviours will also be her executioners.  The Medicad budget cut has the potential to kill her? I have always thought that conservatives are racist and only are for the rich.  Compare these two cases.  White lady that is brain dead needs to be saved. A black baby that needs a breathing machine to help him breathe untill his lungs can develop more, so he can breathe on his own.  As, I mentioned at the top of blog.  The black baby parents can't pay the hostptal bill.  The hospital chose to stop treatment. Where is all the conservatives supporting this child.   

I was wondering why the GOP is so involved in the Shaivo case. According to internal senate memo.  The GOP is using Mrs. Shaivo to grandstand their case to their religioius base.

This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue.

This is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida has already refused to become a cosponsor and this is a tough issue for Democrats.

The republicans in congress want to prevent the womens husband from removing the feeding tube, by making it illegal.  These are the religious republicans, who say god will choose the time for us to die.  Yet when god choose's a time for us to die, what do we as humans do.  We use our medical techonolgies to prolong life for years at times.  When you keep someone alive artificially for 15 years, you are playing god.  I hope that these republicans will suffer some sort of brain damage and I would like to see them keep alive for 15 years artificially of course, and see how their family reacts.  Lets keep him or her alive becuase maybe we the family can revive the person, even though there is no brain activity.

I found this poll on the net, and made me wonder.  The poll was about "Are blacks right to blame Whites for their problems through violence?"  Thi s result I found quite odd.   

The negro should not be allowed to continue on this path of hate and blame toward Whites.

I am assumeing that the above section of the poll was answered by white people. If your own race has been oppressed for a few hundred years, and you had very little civil rights, and white people would hunt you and lynch you, hang you from trees.  Would'nt you be mad at the white race the race that treated you like poorly.  Why should'nt the blacks have some built up anger towards their oppressors and want revenge.  I just find is odd how some white's can opress black's   for about 100 years "slavery, no right to vote, sit in the back of bus, drink from a different water fountain. Then all of sudden expect the black's that have been oppressed by the white's for abo ut 100 years not to retaliate.  I don't know how people can expect things to be equal when there is a history of this mistreatment still in there culture.  If some white's could mistreat  the blacks in the past then in my eyes there are some white's th at are still capable of mistreating blacks again, or any other race.  You can not mistreat a race then all of sudden not expect any retaliation.
